Velosolutions established and built the first of its kind bike trail in the Zillertal region. The bike trail reaches from the gondolaโs mid-station Wiesenalm all the way down to its valley station in the town of Zell am Ziller
The 5.5km long trail covers a 700 meter difference in altitude. This playful single trail with many unique features is perfect for beginners as well as for intermediate riders. As the single trail also includes variations such as pump track elements and wall rides it is also attractive for advanced riders.
The Zillertal Arena is one of Austriaโs biggest ski resorts; in 2011, together with MTB-Freeride TV, they reached out and entrusted Velosolutions with the overall planning and realization of the bike trail. The overall concept and trail routings were developed in close connection with local authorities and landowners. Due to the steep nature of the terrain and numerous wetlands, the concept and implementation had to be creative. Long traverses reduced the trails pitch creating ideal conditions for beginners; wetlands were spared and or bridged to keep the impact to a minimum.
The overall topography of the area asked for changes in its characteristics within the trail. The first, flat, 1.2 kilometers of the trail were perfect for creating a fluent pump track section, which means little to no pedaling or breaking for the rider. The steeper mid section is a more classic bike trail construction, broad enough for beginners to keep their bikes under control at all times. The third and last part of the trail takes you straight through the forest and was planned and built as a single trail with natural obstacles such as stones or roots. The construction of the Zillertal Arena single trail started in 2012 and was finished within one month thanks to the help of several teams.
